Sometimes understanding what happened isn't enough to make it feel like it's over.
You may understand logically that you're safe now, that something wasn't your fault, or that you want to move forward — while another part of your brain and body continues to react as though the experience is still happening.
EMDR therapy can help your brain process experiences that continue to feel emotionally "stuck."
Alba offers EMDR therapy, EMDR 2.0-informed treatment, and extended EMDR intensive sessions for adults throughout Illinois.
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy originally developed for the treatment of trauma and distressing life experiences.
During EMDR, we identify experiences, memories, beliefs, emotions, and body sensations that continue to create distress in the present.
While bringing aspects of the experience to mind, you engage in bilateral stimulation — such as guided eye movements, alternating sounds, or tapping.
The goal isn't to erase what happened. Instead, EMDR helps the brain process the experience so that you can remember what happened without having to continually relive the same emotional intensity.
